IGT released report on review into the ATO’s fraud control management
The Inspector-General of Taxation (IGT), Mr Ali Noroozi, welcomes the public release of his report into the Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) Fraud Control Management. The Parliament’s Senate Economics References Committee requested that the IGT examines the ATO’s fraud control management due to concerns surrounding allegations of tax fraud that may be linked to abuse of position by a public official.

From the 12th to the 15th of March, a Mediation Training for African Ombudsman was held in Durban, South Africa. The IOI in collaboration with the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC) had organized a program, tailor-made for the needs of African Ombudsinstitutions, hosted by the Public Protector of South Africa.

Strengthening partnerships: PCC engages Anambra state Ministry of Environment in addressing environmental challenges
On 6 November 2023, the Honourable Federal Commissioner Public Complaints Commission, Anambra State, Hon. Lolo Emelda Nwajiofor-Okoli, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr Felix Odumegwu, at the Ministry of Environment, State Secretariat complex, Awka. Hon. Nwajiofor-Okoli engaged the Commissioner for Environment on the crucial role of the Public Complaints Commission as a watchdog for addressing administrative grievances affecting Anambrarians.

Launch of the Annual Report 2016
In May 2017, the European Ombudsman, Emily O'Reilly, presented the Ombudsman’s Annual Report 2016. This year showed again how the work of an ombudsman can have a positive effect over time on the quality of the EU administration, in line with the strategy of the European Ombudsman to increase the impact, relevance and visibility of the office.

On 27 November 2023, the Biennial report of the deaths of children in New South Wales: 2020 and 2021, incorporating reviewable deaths of children, had been tabled in Parliament. The report details how infant and child mortality rates in NSW fell between 2007 and 2021.

The Defensor del Pueblo Annual Report 2015 presented before the Parliament reflects the changes in the manner of operation of this institution, as well as in the work itself. The Western Australian Ombudsman organises information sessions in order to engage with Aboriginal Western Australians
The office of the Western Australian Ombudsman has a special responsibility to ensure that it engages with, and listens to, Aboriginal Western Australians. Representatives from seven independent agencies had the opportunity to speak to, and hear from, Aboriginal Elders and service providers during information sessions held in Western Australia, the first in Perth on 13 May and the second in Mandurah on 14 May 2019.

Non-smoking unit established in prisons based on the Ombudswoman’s recommendation
A number of convicted non-smokers complained to the Ombudsman that a non-smoking area was no longer delimited in their prison. After the inquiry, the Ombudswoman concluded that the prison made an error when it allowed non-smokers to be regularly exposed to the negative effects of passive smoking. After issuing the inquiry report, the prison established a non-smoking unit for 25 convicts.
