The Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights (Ombudsman) published a Guide of Prisoner’s First Contact in English and in Greek. This publication was prepared by the Ombudsman in cooperation with lawyers of the Association of the Protection of the Rights of Prisoners & Ex-Prisoners and it takes in consideration the real experiences gained from persons who remained in custody either as detainees pending trial or convicts in the Central Prisons of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) published a summary of an investigation which found three vulnerable people living in the UK were locked out of accessing the justice system to challenge deportation orders, because of conflicting government procedures and lengthy delays.

The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) held a press conference to announce that an independent monitoring mechanism as required by Article 33 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) will be set up to build long-term cooperation between government agencies and representatives for disabled persons, jointly facilitating the implementation of the CRPD.

Following the annual Government Report on the Operation of the State and County Prisons and Juvenile Correctional Institutions, which recorded nine inmate deaths in the entire prison system during the course of 2020, Ombudswoman Tena Šimonović Einwalter instigated an investigation procedure in this matter.
