Guided by the objective to provide Ombudsman institutions worldwide with best practice papers on Ombudsman-related topics, the IOI is pleased to circulate a draft of the 2nd Issue on “Securing effective change – how to make recommendations that bring about sustainable improvement to public administration” to the wider membership for comments, remarks and input.

IOI | European Region elects new Director

The term of Ms Lucia Franchini as Ombudsman of Tuscany (Italy) ended and as a result, the position of one European Director on the IOI Board of Directors became vacant. According to the European regional by-laws one of the Directors at the European regional Board, Ms Ülle Madise, Chancellor of Justice of Estonia, took over the vacant seat at the IOI Board and elections were held to fill the vacant position on the European regional Board.

Kenya | Nyeri Forum Enlightens Members of the Public on Role of Commission

Residents of Nyeri County had the opportunity to interact with the Commission and get to understand its mandate in fostering administrative justice in the public sector. The exhibition event was under the umbrella of the 6th Annual Conference of Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices held in Nyeri town to mark six years since the establishment of the bodies.

Australia | Commonwealth Ombudsman to be National Preventative Mechanism Coordinator for OPCAT

Attorney-General Senator the Hon George Brandis QC and the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Julie Bishop MP today announced that the Australian Government has formally ratified the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT).

China | Ombudsman Hong Kong announces result of direct investigation into Transport Department’s handling of a road section enclosed and left idle for prolonged period

The Ombudsman, Ms Connie Lau, today (October 31) announced the completion of a direct investigation into the handling of a road section enclosed and left idle for a prolonged period. The direct investigation report has been uploaded to the Office of The Ombudsman website for public viewing.
