IOI/EUROPE: Estonian Chancellor of Justice to host European ombudsmen

The conference of the European Chapter of the International Ombudsman Institute Ombudsman’s Role in a Democracy will be held on the initiative of Chancellor of Justice Indrek Teder at Tallinn Teachers House from 17-19 September.

POLAND: Monitoring of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

One of the priorities of the Human Rights Defender is to monitor the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. As a consequence, the ombudsman’s office has asked every county and district in Poland to fill out a survey, which aims at collecting respective data on how local government implements the adherence to the convention.

CANADA: Registration open for SYT Training in Toronto in January 2015

Registration is now open for the next session of Ontario Ombudsman's training course for ombudsmen and administrative investigators, "Sharpening Your Teeth: Advanced Investigative Training for Administrative Watchdogs." The course is tailored for oversight agencies and will be held from 19 to 21 January 2015 in Toronto, Canada.

WORLD: 27th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva

On the occasion of the UN Human Rights Council's 27th session, representatives of governmental and non-governmental institutions met in Geneva to engage in a discussion on the topic of the protection of the human rights of persons deprived of their liberty.
