2017-09-07Ombudsman Kräuter welcomes South Korean delegation in Vienna
As part of a study visit to Austria, Germany and the Netherlands, a delegation from South Korea visited the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) on 5 September 2017. The delegation was chaired by Chul-Young Shin, Ombudsman of Gangwon Province, and included representatives from the audit division and general civil service offices of different South Korean cities. The visit served as a platform for a fruitful exchange of experiences between the AOB and the South Korean delegation.

En el marco de una acción de Habeas Corpus correctivo a favor de todos los detenidos que se alojan y que en lo sucesivo transiten la Unidad nº 28, la Cámara Nacional de Apelaciones en lo Criminal y Correccional confirmó la resolución del Juzgado Nacional en lo Criminal y Correccional nº 62 a cargo en ese momento del Dr. Luis Alberto Scheigel, mediante la que principalmente se ordenó restringir al máximo los pernoctes en dicha unidad, en consonancia con las resoluciones anteriores de la Corte Suprema de Justicia de la Nación.

2017-08-30Number of complaints and investigations in the 2nd quarter of 2017
A total of 1991 complaints were received in the 2nd quarter of 2017, which is 54 less than in the same period last year. The ombudsman was approached by 1373 persons in matters falling within her competence under the law, which is 46 more than in the second quarter of the past year. Thus, the proportion of complaints falling within the Ombudsman’s mandate increased to 68% (the figure for the last year was 66%).

An Ombudsman investigation report relating to the conditions faced by women in the Alice Springs Women's Correctional Facility has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly. Women in Prison II revisits similar issues to those discussed in a 2008 Ombudsman report. It concludes that progress since then has been limited at best.
