Czech Ombudswoman supports Polish Ombudsman who faces criticism for defending human rights in Poland
A number of international organisations and networks, namely ENNHRI, Equinet, GANHRI, IOI and OHCHR Europe, issued a statement in which they openly supported the Commissioner for Human Rights of Poland Adam Bodnar who is facing a strong criticism including the hateful campaign against him and hate speech for publicly protecting the right to a fair trial and the prohibition from inhumane and degrading treatment.

Ombudsman welcomes Venice Principles
On 2 May 2019, the Meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies of the Council of Europe endorsed the “Principles on the Protection and Promotion of the Ombudsman Institution” (“The Venice Principles”). IOI took part in side event at the UN High-Level Political Forum 2019 on SDGs
As part of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York (9 July – 18 July 2019) the Permanent Missions of Austria and Malaysia to the United Nations in New York hosted a side event coving the topic of “Protecting the Rule of Law & Human Rights and Advancing Access to Justice”. Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) organized the event content-wise and invited several renowned officials to speak and debate about actions and strategies to protect the human rights of democracy activists, to ensure that the “Rule of Law” is “human rights’ centered” under SDG Goal 16 and the role of Ombudsman institutions in this context.

Office of the Ombudsman and Anti-Corruption Commission sign memorandum of understanding
The Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Leon Jenkins-Johnston Esq. and the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission Francis Ben-Kaifala Esq. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on behalf of the two institutions. The aim of the MOU is to foster collaboration among the two institutions in the fight against Corruption, Administrative Injustice and Maladministration in the Public service.
