IOI: World Bank and IOI successfully co-host round table on ombudsman institutions

On 25 March the World Bank and the IOI organized a round table on „The Role of Ombudsman Offices in Promoting Good Governance and Effective Service Delivery“, held at the headquarters of the World Bank in Washington, DC. The IOI was represented at the discussions by its second Vice-President Diane Welborn and Secretary General Günther Kräuter.

SOUTH AFRICA: Report on “security” upgrades of president’s private residence released

In March 2014, the Public Protector published her report on her investigation into allegations of unlawful and unethical conduct with regard to the installation of security measures and related upgrades at the president's private residence at Nkandla.

JORDAN: The Ombudsman Bureau’s Status Confirmed by Government

After more than six months of facing challenges by the Lower House, the Ombudsman Bureau’s status was determined by a joint ‘voting’ session in favour of its existence within the government as an independent monitoring institution.

SPAIN / CATALONIA: Foundation of the first International Association of Language Commissioners

IALC aims to join efforts in the defense of language rights.The foundation of the association puts an end to a symposium on language rights in which participating experts agreed that the use of regional languages in state-run public services is declining.
