POLAND: Ombudsman underlines necessity to implement EU-Directive on patients’ rights

In a statement to the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Irena Lipowicz, the Human Rights Defender of Poland, underlined the necessity to urgently implement the Directive 2011/24/EU on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare.

CZECH REPUBLIC: Anna Šabatová becomes new Ombudsman

Mrs Anna Šabatová, who was deputy to the first Czech ombudsman Otakar Motejl (2001-2007) and the head of the Czech Helsinki Committee from 2008 to early 2013 - will take up the post as new Czech Ombudsman after being sworn-in by Chamber of Deputies chairman Jan Hamacek on the 18th February.

UK/WALES: Hospital fails to treat patient’s stroke in accordance with national guidance

Professor Margaret Griffiths, the Acting Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, has criticised Cardiff & Vale University Health Board for its failure to appropriately treat a patient who suffered a stroke whilst in its care at Llandough Hospital.
