Thailand | Thai Ombudsman and the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) sign MOU

On 11 December 2017, Ombudsman for Chief Ombudsman of the Kingdom of Thailand (General Viddhavat Rajatanun) and the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) (Mr. Ulugbek Mukhammadiev) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in order to form the organizational cooperation in ensuring the effective protection of human rights and freedoms and enhancing good governance.

The signing ceremony took place during the International Conference on “Human Rights through the Prism of the Constitution and the Action Strategy on Five Priority Areas of the Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan” hosted by the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in cooperation with Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) at the International Business Center of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Ms. Zagipa Balieva, Ombudsman for Children's Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Mihail Kotorobai, People’s Advocate of Moldova and Dr. Josef Siegele, European Ombudsman Institute also presented in this event.

This MOU marks a significant step for the closer collaboration between both Ombudsman institutions in redressing people’s grievance through complaint handling and investigation, fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices as well as increasing the efficiency of investigation processes so that each side can replicate lesson learned to his own context.

In this occasion, General Viddhavat Rajatanun also gave a special lecture on “Legal Mandates of the Ombudsman and the Ombudsman’s Role in Promoting Good Governance in Thailand”.
