ZAMBIA | Public Protector pays courtesy call on the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs

The Public Protector, Mrs Caroline C.Z Sokoni paid a courtesy call on the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rev Godfridah Sumaili on Tuesday 10th July 2018. The two leaders explored among other issues ways of collaborating between the two institutions in the promotion of national values and social justice among Zambians. 

The Honourable Minister said that everyone needs to get involved in promoting national values which are enshrined in the Constitution. She further added that national values should be the way of life for all especially those in public service. The Honourable Reverend Sumaili said human dignity, social justice, fairness and the rule of law is what defines Zambia.

The Public Protector emphasised on the core functions of the Ombudsman office which are centred on integrity, accountability, fairness and promotion of social justice. She further said that there was need for the two institutions to work together rather than working in isolation. Mrs Sokoni proposed a grassroots based approach in propagating the national values, by ensuring that the school curriculum is tailored in a manner that incorporates the teaching of these national values in schools.

The two leaders agreed to forge a working relationship in the inculcation of these national values.
