ZAMBIA | Public Protector meets Swedish Ambassador and EU Head of Mission to Zambia and Comensa

The Public Protector of Zambia, Mrs Caroline C.Z Sokoni in her capacity as the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Africa Regional President and Treasurer General of African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), met with the Swedish Ambassador to Zambia Mr Henrik Cederin on 9th August 2018 and the European Union (EU) Ambassador, Head of Delegation to the Republic of Zambia and COMESA Mr Alessandro Mariani on 10th August 2018 respectively.

The meetings centered around exploring options of how the EU could help in financing the consolidated permanent secretariat of the IOI-Africa and AOMA which currently separately located and are rotational. The discussions progressed well with assurances from the two Ambassadors that they will do some research and revert to the Public Protector with the findings on how best the situation at hand could be mitigated.

It must be noted that the Ombudsman institutions play a crucial role in the promotion of good governance and protection of human rights across the globe. In this regards, the Public Protector underscored the need to have the Ombudsman institutions recognized at AU level so that the Member States could incorporate the Ombudsman programmes into their policies and laws.
