CAYMAN ISLANDS | Ombudsman invites applications for position of Deputy Ombudsman

The Ombudsman of the Cayman Islands invites applications for a temporary appointment to the position of Deputy Ombudsman (Complaints).

The purpose of this temporary post (to March 11, 2020), is to provide leadership in establishing a complaints process for members of the public relating to police misconduct in accordance with the Police (Complaints by the Public) Law and to establish all of the policies, guidance and educational materials required to support the goals of the Whistleblower Protection Law. In addition, the post holder will be expected to fulfil the duties of supervising maladministration complaints.

The Office of the Ombudsman was established in September 2017 as a merger of the former Office of the Complaints Commissioner and the Information Commissioner’s Office with additional responsibility for police complaints and whistleblower protection.   Responsibility for the data protection legislation will be added in 2019.
