China | Ombudsman Hong Kong announces results of two direct investigations and one full investigation

The Ombudsman, Ms Connie Lau, held a press conference on April 17 to announce the results of two direct investigations and one full investigation report.

The first direct investigation on “Water Supplies Department’s Maintenance of Government Water Mains and Risk Management”concerned the frequent incidents of fresh and salt water main bursts in recent years. Those incidents caused inconvenience to the public and resulted in huge waste of fresh and salt water. The investigation identified a number of inadequacies and the Ombudsman made ten improvement recommendations to the Water Supplies Department.

The second direct investigation on “Government Departments’ Handling of the Problem of Air-conditioner Dripping" found inadequacies in the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department's hadnling of complaints about air-conditioner dripping. The Ombudsman also made a total of eight recommendations to improve the situation.

The press conference also covered a full investigation report on “Handling of a Complaint by Highways Department and Labour Department about Inadequate Safety Measures for Lifting Operations in a Government Infrastructure Project”.
