Azerbaijan | Ombudsman holds events within the framework of a month long campaign on child rights

Next events within the framework of child rights month long campaign were held in secondary school No.74. Representatives of the Ombudsman Office attended the event.

For revealing and developing talents of children, the Commissioner initiated to organize child art exhibitions on different topics, as well as on the topic of “Me and My Rights” on the occasion of 10 December, the International Human Rights Day. The Commissioner called upon students to participate in the exhibition to be held this year.

It was said, that the Leadership School is functioning at the Ombudsman’s resource center on child rights, the Azerbaijan Child and Youth peace Network. Children are provided in depth information about the history, geography, natural resources, economy, culture, literature and tourism of Azerbaijan under the motto “Azerbaijan – my Motherland!” and taught human and child rights.  

Besides that, an awareness raising event was held in Baku State Colleague of Social and Economic Studies with participation of students of Fuzuli rayon secondary school No.5. Ombudsman representatives presented publications of the Ombudsman office to the school at this event.

Another event was held at secondary school No.267 for the students of the fifth grade. Throughout the campaign a series of events were organized in the capital and regions by the Ombudsman’s Office and its regional centers, local executive bodies, other relevant agencies, municipalities, NGOs and communities; children were also involved in these events.

The Ombudsman’s Ganja Regional Center held events dedicated to the topic “Rights and Duties of Children” in Ganja Integrated Training Boarding type  Gymnasium, Special school No.45, and on the topic of “Promotion of Human Rights and National Values among Juveniles”. The Ombudsman’s Sheki Regional Center held an event in Balakan rayon Mahamalar village school.

Heads of the above mentioned regional centers informed participants about rights and duties of children enshrined in international and national normative legal acts, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, as well as in Law on Child Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ombudsman’s activities for the protection of child rights.
