EUROPE | Meeting of ENNHRI Advisory Committe in Tbilisi

The International Advisory Committee of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) was held at the Information Center on NATO and EU in Tbilisi on April 20, 2017. Representatives of national human rights institutions and ombudspersons of Georgia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain, Armenia and Croatia discussed the strategic plan of ENNHRI for the next three years.

The official vision of ENNHRI, its mission and main objectives were discussed at the meeting. Thematic priorities, future actions and resources were also defined.

The meeting is held once in three years. The previous meeting of the Advisory Committee was held in Budapest in 2013 and a strategic action plan was devised for 2014-2017.

ENNHRI is an international organization founded in compliance with the Belgian law and it brings together more than 40 national human rights institutions from all Europe. The Network has been promoting protection of human rights, as well as creation and accreditation of national human rights institutions in the region for 15 years. The Network coordinates exchange of information and best practices between its members, tries to develop opportunities, and is engaged in the international/regional human rights mechanisms and legal/political events of Europe.

It should be noted that for the second consecutive year the Public Defender of Georgia was elected as a member of the European Coordinating Committee (ECC) of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) for a three-year term, while in 2017 he was elected as Chairman of the Finance Committee, which supervises the budget of the European Network and is responsible for obtaining finances.
