PAKISTAN | Directive of the Ombudsman Sindh to the Secretary School Education Department and the Inspector General of Police

Provincial Ombudsman Sindh being the custodian of public interests has took a Suo Moto action on news published in Daily Newspapers regarding alleged corporal punishment and torture with sticks upon a student of class V by the Principal of SM Grammar School Korangi Karachi.

It was also reported that physical torture was regular feature of the said School. Enquiry ordered by the Ombudsman Sindh and conducted by Children Complaint Office revealed that the corporal punishment i.e. physical torture was committed by the Principal upon the student. The gross negligence and mal-administration was established on the part of Directorate of Private Institutions on their failure to perform their responsibilities under law as well as under terms and conditions of School Registration.

To avert such fatal incidents in future Ombudsman Sindh Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik issued strict orders to the Secretary School Education Department for implementation of “The Sindh Prohibition of Corporal Punishment Act, 2016” and also directed the Inspector General of Police for ensuring effective vigilance and legal action against in-human treatment meted out to students by teachers.
