CANADA/QUEBEC | Better integrated services in response to the needs of children with an intellectual disability or an autism spectrum disorder

In a public investigation report released on March 24, the Québec Ombudsman presented its findings and recommendations concerning the health services and social services provided to children under 18 years old with an intellectual disability or an autism spectrum disorder. The report sheds light on difficulties accessing professional rehabilitation services (speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy), service continuity gaps and lack of dovetailing of services when the young people are redirected to other institutions.  The Québec Ombudsman’s recommendations are aimed at better service integration.
