The Ombudsman Board has been independently monitoring and controling Austria’s entire public administration since 1977 by order of the Federal Constitution. Each year, around 15,000 persons turn to Ombudsman Dr. Peter Kostelka, Ombudswoman Dr. Gertrude Brinek and Ombudswoman Terezija Stoisits.
They follow up complaints and check the legality of decisions by authorities. Each year, around 6,000 cases of maladministration in the public administration are examined. The Ombudsman Board stands for fair dealings with citizens by the administration and exercises public control to serve the rule of law and democracy.
